Deanza Flea Market - April

I love the Deanza Flea Market! I usually find some great stuff there. I always look forward to the first Saturday of every month. Some months are good and some bad. My mom and I try never to miss this day. She goes for her plants and I go for my vintage finds. My sweet mom is like a hawk too. She can spot something that we both like and want from a distance. She'll make me run after it too. "Lisa, go,go,go, I see this!" She's great.

Anyhoo, this is what I found this month.

I collect dolls. So when I found this Tiny Tears with caracul hair, I was elated. As for the pink, vintage table cloths, I thought they were curtains, but I was wrong. I can't wait to use them on my wrought iron patio table this summer.

The picture frame, linen towel, & plates were hidden treasures in a box full of "junk"!

This Croscill duvet cover looks better in natural sunlight. I was tickled to get a great deal on it. I just need to find the matching shams.

So when searching, don't forget to look into those grubby boxes you might think yucky. They can be chest full of treasures.

Until then,

Look what I was missing?

I haven't gone to an Estate sale for about 3-4+ years. When my eldest son started walking, I took a break from Estate sales. When I thought I could get back into it, I had my second child. I missed it. But with two young, hyperactive boys, there is no way I will take them with me. I mean flea markets, garage sales, and thrift stores are ok, but not Estate sales. Estate sales + 2 boys = disaster. Not that I had any, but I know my boys enough to not take them.

Anyhoo, while browsing through Craigslist for a curio Thursday night, I saw an ad for an Estate sale on Friday, 4/3. I knew at that point I had to go. I'll just drop my eldest at school, dump my youngest with his favorite Grandpa, plunk my mom in the car with me and zoom to the Estate sale. For starters, you had to sign up and be on a list. The sign up list would start Thursday night. My mom and I decided to take a quick drive over and sign up. The ad gave a street name, but no house #. I figured that they would have a sign that would say "ESTATE SALE" plastered all over the street or house. NOpe. I drove up and down the street looking for this house. I gave up and went home. The next day, we went back to the street expecting that the estate sale sign would definitely be up. NOpe. I had to find the house with the most cars parked in front of it. I get there and signed up. My mom and I were #30 and #31.

When they finally opened at 9 am, they only let the first 11 people in. These eleven people had the house to themselves for about 45 minutes before they allowed the next 11 people in. And while I was waiting, everything I saw in the ad that I wanted was being purchased...cast iron & wrought iron patio furniture, jewelry, china, planters, paintings, etc. I was slightly crushed. After a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes of waiting, they got to #24 when they decided it was a free for all. Well that didn't go well for the rest of us who signed up. We made such a stink that they followed through on the list.

When I got in, my mom and I were slightly dismayed (practically everything in the house was SOLD); however, we did walk out with some goodies. Some of my favorites are the chandelier frame ($3), the electric scissors (.50c), and the figurine lamp . I like all my other goodies too so I won't complain too much!

Here are my lucky finds:

This is what I'm missing at Estate sales. There were a lot of resellers there too, but they cleaned the place before I got in. I know, I saw some of the sellers at the Deanza Flea.

Now what do you think I did the next day?

I shopped at the Deanza Flea Market

Maybe I'll save that for tomorrow's blog.

I Heart Mirrors! Can't get enough of them!

Our computer was fried. It took Fry's a week and a half to tell us it was. And let me tell you, I was upset. It's been tough not having a computer and, in some ways, it's sad. I've become so dependent on it. Ovey! So here I am typing away on our new computer. I hope this one will last a long time.

Everytime I see a mirror that I adore, I grab it. I have no space for another mirror in my house, but I can't stop buying "just one more".

Take a look.

This one is in my office hallway. Venetian mirrors are so glamorous.

This one is in my master bathroom above our sink. Excuse the mess. This photo was taken before I cleaned up.

These are in a small hallway.

And this one is above the master tub across from the master sink. It looks so lonely there. I think when I find the right candelier, I'll hang in front of this mirror.

Oh, I've got a lot more to share, but maybe I'll save it for another mirror show and tell day!

However, I wanted to show you my latest project. It was a mirror I found at a flea market years ago. I had shabby plans for it. I was going to paint it white and decoupage a rose print inside of it, but instead, it sat in my closet until about a month ago. This is what I created. Oh, it's not shabby, but I think it's perfect. Here are my before and after photos.

That's my baby boy. Isn't he cute?

Before

Another before

And after

And more afters.

I love this mirror! It was so fun to make. I wish I could make more of these using differnt prints and appliques. But for right now, I've got more projects in the works, projects to share, and a backlog of my latest finds to share.

Until then,

Wait, We just celebrated my 6 year old's birthday party at The Jungle. Here's my baby (with his mouth stuffed with pizza)! Love you Monkey!

Two Computers Down at Home

WoW! My computer and my husband's laptop went kaputzies on us. Right now, I'm at work early to vent a bit. It's been about a week now that I have been unable to blog. My husband claims it will be fixed by this weekend. We'll see as I've got photos to load up, emails to reply to, blogs to checkout, and blogs to post. Until then, while I'm waiting, I will be working away on my smaller projects, house cleaning, and yard/garden weeding.

Speaking of projects, it has been quite cold around here. And while I don't mind the cold weather, I do mind not being able to get my painting projects done. I mean the "spray" painting projects done. I suppose I can use a paint brush, but some things are better painted by the can. I know I've been complaining about this for a while now, but I really, really want to get my projects done soon. I have a stack of stuff in my living room that's becoming an eye sore.

On the lighter side, my son's birthday (he's turning 6) is this weekend although his party is next weekend. So my mind has been preoccupied with gift ideas, etc. As for the party, I left it for "The Jungle" (a play gym for kids). They are taking care of EVERYTHING except for the cake. Nice. Oh, it's another year of the Spiderman theme for him. I was hoping for pirates or something else, but nope, it's Spiderman again.

Anyhoo, must get to work.

Sickies in the house

I haven't been able to blog much this week for two reasons.

First, the boys are sick, sick, sick....again!Those poor little boys. Tristan is a cold magnet. He manages to catch everyone's cold from home & school. Aargh. I've been pretty lucky as I've managed to resist most of their cold/flu attacks. Only once so far I was taken down!

Second, my computer went haywire on me. My husband finally cleaned it up losing all my favorite bookmarks! I was devastated. But it's working now, so I'll try not to complain too much.

When I get a chance this week, I'll post my De Anza Flea Market & Thrift store finds. I'm near painting completion of my trumeau mirror (my attempt to make one) & wall pocket, and I can't wait to show you the before and after photos.

I've also completed a lampshade for my foyer lamp. My mom is in love with it! Maybe I should open my own little etsy... that sounds more like it! The lampshade was a lot of work; but it was all worth it. In addition to my lampshade, my mom fell in love with an apron I ordered. Well guess what? She's planning on making herself one in the most shabbiest design. We drew our design out & can't wait to get all the fabrics ordered & put together. I can't wait to model it as well as the one I ordered.

Well, until then.

More Rainy Day Thrift Finds!

Well, it was a week of rain and more rain. We did have pockets of sunshine. It's been hard trying to work on my painting projects with this cold weather, but I'll get them done.

My youngest boy, Lance, has come down with a cold, and I'm still feeling semi-miserable from the one I'm still trying to get over. And to avoid getting sick, my husband is currently sleeping in Lance's bed during this time. It's cute. And despite that two out of four in our house are sick, I did slip in some thrift shopping time this week.

I've got some wonderful buys. I especially love discount days at our local thrift stores. Here's what I got this week.

I plan on painting & covering the hamper.

I love the Fragonard style! This tureen was a steal! I was thinking about using it in my bathroom as a soap container.

I was in fabric heaven. They will make great pillows and purses. The tarnished silverware will get a new life too after a good polishing.

This basket will be great for lost socks!

In addition to thrifting at the thrift shops, I decided to stop by Home Goods. I haven't been to Home Goods in months (more like 6-8 months). Boy, I missed the place. Every time I go there, I want to buy the place out. I had to refrain myself. There was a lot of beautiful stuff there. But I did buy the following:

I love the hydrangea candlelabra! I think it's perfect for my future sunroom. The cloche was a steal!! It was on clearance for $5 and it was mine. Last, the transferware! I've always had a thing for transferware. When I saw them, I knew I had to have them, so I bought four each. They were very inexpensive. My husband did cringe because I love beautiful dishes.

It's been a good week despite illnesses and rainy weather. I hope I will get at least a couple of days next week to do some painting and some backyard weeding. Oh, and if it doesn't rain this coming Saturday, I'm going to enjoy myself at the De Anza flea market. Maybe I'll see you there.

Pink Toile at Target

Oh. My. Gosh. I was at Target with my mom yesterday shopping for a birthday gift, and we both decided to stop by the Rachel Ashwell's bedroom linen section before we checked out. However, when we got there, her aisle was blocked off by boxes of new inventory. So we decided to checkout the bathroom section. The minute I saw it, my jaw just dropped. PINK TOILE. I love pink toile. In fact, I love TOILE - pink just made it even better. I was so giddy. I wanted to buy the entire collection, but I had to remain calm & collected. PINK TOILE!!! Anyhoo, I didn't walk out with any RA's pink toile collection- sniff, sniff. I had just spent the majority of the day at the thrift stores, Home Goods, etc. So I knew I had spent enough for the day. I did get some great buys though which I'll show you later. So until my next paycheck or a RA sale, I'll be thinking of a pink toile bathroom. PINK TOILE!
